Unframed Gallery has the honour to kick off with a solo show by Willem Vermeersch.
To inaugurate our new art venue in Ghent, we have the pleasure and honour to show case a selection of the intriguing works by Willem, which he made over the last decade. From larger scale paintings to A3 format drawings, the visitor will be able to pick the brain and lose themselves.
From monochrome lines to vibrant explosions of color, from explicit shapes to vague strokes… Through scribbling and babbling with paint, pencil, video or completely different means, Willem Vermeersch reacts instinctively to the exhausting violence of overstimulation, digital absorption and ideal images. His work invites to deal with ‘whatever’ in a playful and physical way, in which personal and shared experiences meet one another. Things are done here without a predetermined outcome.
By working layer upon layer, sometimes for years, a choreography is created in which
things are continuously absorbed and released. These images stimulate associative thinking and at the same time they disrupt the process of interpretation. As if there is some (cosmic) noise in every ‘body’ that helps us to remind that a thing or person never really coincides with what we think of it. These works of art can serve as perceptual devices, asking us to drop a few assumptions so that new perspectives can appear, along with the so much needed confidence into things we anyways have no
control over.
Dates:
The show will start on Thursday 9/1/2025 (invitation only) and will be open during the weekends on saturdays from 2pm until 6pm and sundays from 1pm until 5pm. And for those who want a private view, we are happy to open on appointment. The show will end on the 3rd of February.
There will be a finissage in the weekend of 15/16 February: on saturday from 2pm until 6pm and sunday from 1pm until 5pm
